My name is Melanie and in my early twenties I suffered from anxiety, after experiencing a panic attack while shopping, I developed a fear of the same thing happening again.
This fear was always on my mind, it felt like I spread it from place to place.
Within months my world had grown smaller.
I’d force myself to go to places I knew I’d feel uncomfortable in an effort to prove that I was okay, inevitably I’d feel worse and have to leave.
I started to avoid certain places and situations, having to make excuses for why I wouldn’t and couldn’t attend.
I felt embarrassed to admit to anyone that I felt this way, like I was somehow failing in life. It looked through my eyes that I was broken and everyone else around me was okay.
